Indian Christmas Dinner in Leeds: Swap the Turkey for Curry

Indian Christmas Dinner in Leeds: Swap the Turkey for Curry

TL;DR: You can have a proper Christmas dinner without a turkey in sight. Our Christmas Feast in Headingley is £30 a head for a starter, main, side and dessert, each guest choosing their own, from 1 November to 24 December 2026. Halal meat, plenty for vegetarians, and Christmas cake or gulab jamun to finish.

Why Curry for Christmas?

By the time the big day comes round, most of us have already eaten turkey at least once: at the work do, at a friend's, at the in-laws'. A festive curry is the meal nobody else is cooking. It is warming on a cold December night in Leeds, it suits a table where half the guests are vegetarian, and it turns the usual Christmas meal into something people actually talk about afterwards.

It is also not as far from tradition as it sounds. For Goa's Catholic community, Christmas has been the great feast of the year for centuries. Read more in our guide to Christmas in Goa.

What Is on Our Christmas Feast

Every guest picks one dish from each course, all for £30 a head.

  • Starters: Goan Potato Chops, Chicken Tikka or Malai, Chicken Pakora, Lamb Seekh Kebab, Onion Bhaji, Samosa or Aloo Tikki, Paneer Pakora, Gobi Manchurian, Vada Pao.
  • Mains: Goan Chicken Xacuti, Goan Chicken Cafreal, Lamb Rogan Josh, Goan Lamb Curry, Paneer Butter Masala, Mix Veg, Dal Makhani, Dal Tadka, Rajma (Kidney Beans), Chicken Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken.
  • Sides: Butter Naan, Garlic Naan, Tandoori Roti, Plain Rice, Jeera Rice.
  • Desserts: Christmas Cake with Ice Cream, Gulab Jamun with Ice Cream.

Optional extras per guest: welcome drink (Prosecco or non-alcoholic) for £5 and festive Indian cocktail for £7.50. All our meat comes from halal-certified suppliers.

How to Order for a Mixed Table

Because everyone orders their own plate, nobody has to compromise. A few pointers if your table spans the whole range:

  • Like it mild? Butter chicken, chicken tikka masala and paneer butter masala are creamy and gentle.
  • Want something different? Go Goan. Chicken xacuti is a deep, nutty curry of roasted coconut and whole spices; cafreal is a bright green masala of coriander, chilli and garlic.
  • Vegetarian? Dal makhani, black lentils slow-cooked with butter and cream, is the comfort pick. Pair it with garlic naan.
  • Street food fans should start with vada pao, the Mumbai potato burger. Here is the story behind it.

Christmas With Friends Before Everyone Heads Home

Headingley is full of housemates, coursemates and old school friends who scatter across the country for the holidays. A Christmas meal together before you go is a tradition worth keeping, and it is a lot less washing up than cooking for twelve in a student kitchen. Tables of 2 to 25 book online, and there is no deposit for groups under 6.

Booking Your Christmas Meal

The Christmas Feast runs from 1 November to 24 December 2026, in the evenings from 5pm (we are closed on Tuesdays). Tables of 6 or more pay a single flat deposit per table: £20 for 6 to 10 guests, £30 for 11 to 15 guests, £50 for 16 or more guests, taken off the bill on the night. Book by 30 November 2026 with the code SANTA15 for 15% off the table bill.
