Drop-Off Catering in Leeds: How It Works and How to Order It

Drop-Off Catering in Leeds: How It Works and How to Order It

TL;DR: Drop-off catering is restaurant-cooked food delivered to you (or ready to collect) that you serve yourselves. It works for any group size, a few days' notice is usually enough, and at Bombay2Goa every order is quoted individually within one working day. For hot food with our staff on site, choose a buffet at your venue instead.

You have a house party, an office do or a family gathering coming up. You do not want waiters, a buffet system or a venue hire fee. You want good food that simply turns up, and a plan that does not fall apart when twenty hungry people arrive. That is what drop-off catering is for, and this guide explains how it works, how to order it and how to serve it safely.

What Is Drop-Off Catering?

Drop-off catering means the restaurant prepares the food and gets it to you, either delivered to your door or ready for you to collect, and you take it from there. There are no staff staying on, no serving line and no clearing up by the caterer. You lay out the food, serve it yourselves and enjoy the event.

At Bombay2Goa, our drop-off orders are freshly prepared trays from the restaurant menu, in the same Bombay street food, Goan curries, tandoori dishes and Indo-Chinese that fill our Headingley dining room, with extensive vegetarian and vegan choices. Everything we serve is halal.

Drop-Off, Buffet at Your Venue or Hosted at the Restaurant?

We offer three ways to cater an event, and the right one depends on how much you want us to do:

OptionGroup sizeWhat it is
Drop-off cateringAny group sizeFresh trays from our menu, delivered or ready to collect. You serve it yourselves
Buffet at your venueNo upper limitA full buffet system at your office, hall or home anywhere in Leeds: hot holding, serving equipment and staff included
Hosted at the restaurantUp to 60 guestsOur private dining area at 16 Headingley Lane, with a dedicated host and menus built around your event

As a rule of thumb: drop-off is the simple, flexible option; a venue buffet is for bigger or more formal events where you want hot food served by our team; and the restaurant is for when you would rather not host at all.

When Drop-Off Catering Is the Right Choice

  • House parties and family gatherings where you want to be a guest, not the cook.
  • Office events and team get-togethers where people serve themselves.
  • Smaller events where a full buffet with staff would be more than you need.
  • Anywhere you already have the space and the kit to lay food out and keep it warm.

It is less suited to events where you want hot food held for hours, or where you do not have anywhere to heat or lay out food. In that case, ask us about a buffet at your venue.

How Ordering Works, Step by Step

  1. Send an enquiry. Use the catering enquiry form or call 0113 513 5972 with your date, guest count and whether you want delivery or collection.
  2. Get your quote. We reply within one working day with a price tailored to your menu, numbers and service style.
  3. Build the menu. Our full restaurant menu is available for catering, and we will help you build a spread around your guest list, dietary requirements and budget.
  4. Confirm. Agree the menu, the date and the delivery or collection time.
  5. Receive or collect, then serve. Your food arrives ready to serve, and you put it out when you are ready.

On notice: for drop-off orders, a few days is usually enough. For buffets and large events, we recommend at least two weeks. Short-notice requests are always worth a call.

What to Tell Us When You Enquire

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. It helps to have:

  • The date, and the time you would like the food.
  • How many people, and roughly how many are adults and children.
  • How many are vegetarian or vegan, and any allergies or other needs. Ask your guests before you order, not after.
  • Delivery or collection. If delivery, the address and anything useful about access, such as parking or stairs.
  • What you have to heat and serve with, and whether you need us to suggest a plan around that.
  • Your budget, and for business orders, whether you need an itemised invoice. We offer itemised invoicing and pre-agreed menus for corporate catering.

Building a Spread That Suits Everyone

A good Indian spread is easy to balance, because the menu is built for sharing. A simple way to plan it:

  • Something to start: samosas, chicken tikka or paneer tikka, so people have something to eat as they arrive.
  • Two or three curries: one chicken or lamb, one vegetarian and one dal, for example butter chicken, paneer butter masala and dal makhani.
  • Rice and bread: plain rice and garlic naan.
  • Something cooling: raita, to balance the spice.
  • Something sweet: gulab jamun.

Count your vegetarians and vegans first and plan for them properly rather than adding a single dish at the end. Everything we serve is halal, and our full menu is available for catering. Tell us the numbers and the mix, and we will help you size and balance the order. Browse the full menu for ideas.

Serving It Safely at Home or the Office

Once food leaves a kitchen, keeping it safe is down to temperature and time. The GOV.UK guidance for food businesses, which is a sensible guide for any party, says hot food must be kept at or above 63°C if you are not serving it straight away. You can keep it below 63°C for up to 2 hours; after that, cool it as quickly as possible to 8°C or below, or throw it away. The same guidance says chilled food must be kept at 8°C or below, and can be out of the fridge for up to 4 hours before it must be thrown away.

In practice, that means:

  • Ask us how your food will arrive and how best to keep it warm, then plan where it will sit before it arrives.
  • Reheat anything that has cooled until it is steaming hot, and only reheat it once.
  • Keep raita and other cold items in the fridge until you serve them.
  • Put leftovers in the fridge promptly rather than leaving them out all evening.
  • Label dishes for guests with allergies or dietary needs, and use separate serving spoons for each dish.

This is general guidance, not a substitute for the official advice on GOV.UK. If you are catering for a lot of people, a buffet at your venue means our team handles the hot holding for you.

Drop-Off Catering for Christmas Parties

December dates go quickly, so enquire early with your date and numbers. If you are planning a work Christmas party at the office, drop-off trays or a buffet bring a proper Indian spread to your own space, with plenty of vegetarian and vegan dishes for the team.

If you would rather have a sit-down meal where nobody has to organise food at all, our Christmas Feast is four courses for £30 a head and books online for up to 25 guests. Our guides to a Christmas dinner for a large group and the office Christmas party compare the options.

What Drop-Off Catering Costs

Every event is quoted individually, with the price on enquiry, because the cost depends on your menu, your guest count and whether you want delivery or collection. The quickest way to get an accurate price is to send your date, numbers and dietary needs, and we come back to you within one working day. When you compare quotes anywhere, check what is included, such as delivery, serving utensils and any minimum order.
