Bombay 2 Goa is a date-night restaurant in Headingley, Leeds, built for couples who want atmosphere, intimacy, and food worth lingering over. Warm low lighting, a retro Bollywood dining room, properly made cocktails, and a menu that gives you something to talk about between courses - it is the kind of evening that makes an ordinary Tuesday feel like an occasion. We are at 16 Headingley Lane, LS6 2AS, open from 5pm and closed on Tuesdays.
What Makes a Restaurant Good for a Date Night?
A great date-night restaurant does a few things at once. It needs an atmosphere that lets you actually hear each other - intimate, not cavernous. It needs lighting that flatters rather than floods. It needs food interesting enough to spark a conversation but not so fussy that it gets in the way of one. And it needs a bar that can carry the evening from a pre-dinner aperitif to a nightcap. Bombay 2 Goa was designed with exactly this in mind, which is why it has quietly become one of the most romantic places to eat in north Leeds.
Headingley itself adds to the appeal. It is leafy, walkable, and a world away from the noise of the city centre. A meal here feels like a proper escape without a long journey, and the area is easy to reach from the University of Leeds, Hyde Park, Burley, Far Headingley, and Chapel Allerton.
The Atmosphere: Warm, Intimate, Unmistakably Ours
Our dining room has a retro Bollywood aesthetic - vibrant artwork, warm amber lighting, and the unmistakable aroma of freshly ground spices. It is lively without being loud, characterful without trying too hard. Tables are spaced so that a conversation stays your own. For couples, we are happy to seat you somewhere quieter when you book; just leave a note on your reservation.
Order to Share: The Best Way to Eat on a Date
The most enjoyable way to eat here as a couple is to share. Our menu is built for it, moving between two distinct regional traditions, and ordering across both gives you a tasting journey rather than two separate plates.
Start on the Bombay street food side. Pani Puri is the great icebreaker - crispy hollow shells filled tableside with cold spiced water, eaten in a single bite, impossible to do elegantly and all the more fun for it. Samosa Chaat layers crushed samosa with chickpea curry, tamarind, mint chutney, yoghurt, and pomegranate - five textures arriving at once and plenty to talk about.
Then move to the coast. Our Chicken Xacuti is the dish most regulars consider unmissable - a slow-cooked Goan curry built on toasted coconut and Kashmiri chillies, with a depth that genuinely surprises people. The Goan Tandoori Prawns, charred in a blazing tandoor with coastal spices and lime, are the kind of dish you remember. Learn more about the cuisine on our Goan food page.
Cocktails and the Bar
Civilised Drinks. Uncivilised Flavours. That is the idea behind our bar, and it is a big part of what makes us a date-night destination rather than just a place to eat. Our cocktails are properly made and designed to sit alongside the food rather than fight it, with a curated wine list, cold beer, and a considered range of spirits behind them. An aperitif before you sit down, a cocktail with your Xacuti, a nightcap to finish - the evening can move at whatever pace suits you.
Dietary Needs, Quietly Handled
A good date night should not be derailed by the menu. Bombay 2 Goa is fully halal, with an extensive vegetarian selection and many vegan adaptations across the menu. Whatever you and your partner eat, there is a route through the menu that works for both of you. Just mention any allergies or requirements when you book and our team will guide you.
Special Occasions: Anniversaries and Birthdays
If your date night is also a celebration - an anniversary, a birthday, a first date you want to get right - tell us in advance and we will make it feel like one. We can arrange a quieter table, accommodate decoration requests, and our kitchen has a signature dessert surprise for the guest of honour. For larger celebrations, take a look at our private dining options.

Date night in Leeds does not have to mean the same city-centre chain everyone else defaults to. A short walk into Headingley, a candlelit table, a bold plate of food you will still be talking about next week, and a cocktail to finish - that is the evening we do best. We would love to host yours.
