Pav Bhaji is Best

Deodita Walke, Jan. 10, 2024

If you are looking for a hearty, satisfying, and delightful meal, look no further than Pav Bhaji.

It’s a melange of vegetables (potatoes, onions, cauliflower, bell pepper, beans, carrots, peas)  cooked with butter and a special spice blend masala which creates magic. Just before serving it is topped with a generous amount of butter & garnished with coriander leaves and served alongside with butter toasted soft dinner rolls with chopped onions and lemon wedges.

In Hindi and Marathi, the word ‘Pav’ means ‘Bread roll or dinner roll’ and Bhaji means ‘a vegetable dish’.  Since these are served together as a meal, it got its name as Pav Bhaji.

Pav bhaji is an iconic dish from Mumbai, which is also hugely popular as street food all over India. It first came into picture in Mumbai as a quick lunch option for textile mill workers.  You will find it everywhere right from upscale restaurants to school/ college canteens and street-side push carts in India. Even more, you will find it in most Indian restaurants abroad.
